About the Job

Client company is an Allentown based developer and producer of mechanical pipe joining systems, which are utilized by a broad base of industries. They are looking for a creative and think-outside-of-the-box type individual who ideally has 2-4 years of experience working with pressurized mechanical products. Client will provide a base salary ranging from $90,000, upwards of $110,000, with bonus potential, complete benefits and an excellent relocation package, if necessary. This position is open due to a promotion, which is common practice within this organization, to promote from within.

Position: Design Engineer- Coupling Technology

Location: Product Development, Engineering Department

Reports to: Technology Director, Manager and/or Technology Group Leader


Responsible for the development and maintenance of commercially successful products.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

A. Development is from inception through steady state production, which often includes:

1. Concept generation.

2. Specific design ideas to satisfy concept(s).

3. Presentation and communication of ideas.

4. Modeling of concept (via drawings and/or hardware).

5. Interfacing with Product Managers/Marketing/Sales to refine concept to meet customer requirements.

6. Costing of initial design.

B. Leading of a multi-departmental team (formal or informal) in the execution of detailed design all the way through to the product being marketed including:

1. Design to meet requirements and manufacturability issues.

2. Detail drawing review and approval.

3. Vendor selection participation (in-house or out).

4. Prototyping.

5. Testing against requirements.

6. Solving design problems.

7. Scrutiny and review of detailed cost estimates.

8. Leading a design review to assure customer and performance requirements are met.

9. Resolving tolerance issues.

10. Development of EI/EP/ES's as appropriate.

11. Participation in tooling selection.

12. Approval of tooling based on samples.

13. Participation in evaluation of pilot production runs and problem solving.

14. Technical literature drafts and approval.

15. Education/training of Marketing/Sales and Engineering Services staff about new product.


1. BS / MS in appropriate engineering field with 2-6 years of experience.Could be Mechanical or possibly Civil Engineer

2. Commercially successful experience in product development involving Product Technology or related products/processes.

3. Successful project management experience inclusive of taking projects from concept through production.

4. Creative, able to generate concepts with good potential that meet project requirements. Well-developed business communication skills.

5. Experience with pressurized equipment is a plus.
